*FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need any experience?
No experience is needed, and all training is provided. The Sleeping God Canyon is best suited to people who are fit, keen and water-confident.
What if I am on my own?
Minimum numbers apply, but you can join an existing group. It helps if you are flexible with your date and give us plenty of notice.
What gear do I need?
All you need is a swimsuit/pair of shorts, shoes suitable for walking and getting wet, a towel and a change of clothes. Some footwear can be provided by CANYONZ if required.
Do I have to do the jumps and slides?
No. Jumps and slides are not compulsory and there is always an easy option.
Am I in control when I am abseiling?
Yes. Most of our clients prefer to be in control of their own descent while abseiling. But you can also be lowered by a guide if you wish.
Do I have to be fit?
Only a moderate level of fitness is required for the Blue Canyon. Matthew (12), Lucy (61) and Jeff (one false leg!), amongst many others, have done it! For the Sleeping God Canyon, a good level of fitness is preferable.
Do I need to be a good swimmer?
No. The streams explored are slow-running and there is very little swimming in our trips. Confidence in water and the ability to swim are enough.
What do I need to bring?
You need to bring a pair of shorts/swimming shorts, some dry clothes and a towel.
What do you provide?
We provide all the canyoning gear (2-piece wetsuits 3, 5 or 7mm, neoprene socks, gloves, hood, harness, helmet), pickup from Central Auckland and transport, snacks, hot and cold drinks.
What is your guide to client ratio?
Our guide to client ratio is 1 to 6 (one guide for 6 clients) in the Blue Canyon, and a minimum of 2 guides for the Sleeping God Canyon.
What training do your guides undergo?
We follow an in-house training progamme in accordance with NZ industry norms and international canyoning standards. We are the pioneers of canyoning training in New Zealand.

Discounts apply to groups of 8 or more. Further discounts apply for bigger groups.
Does the weather matter?
Trips run in almost any weather but CANYONZ reserves the right to cancel a trip if necessary.
Do your departure times vary?
Departure times may vary with conditions, group size or customer requirements.
Where do trips depart from?
Return and departure are from the main entrance to the Sky Tower down town Auckland. For the Sleeping God we also pick up in Thames.
